This freshman course offers a broad foundation in creative writing, while allowing the student an outlet to explore his or her own interests and abilities as a writer. We focus on the writing process and elements of short stories, novels, and poems, all with the intention of strengthening each student’s writerly toolkit and approach to the craft. Students will read classic and contemporary works, as well as those by their fellow writers in the classroom. This course also emphasizes skills in proof reading, editing, and revision. Critical thinking skills will be developed through intensive reading assignments.
